Sustainability

We care deeply about our impact on Earth and reject the idea of profiting by damaging our global ecosystem. Sustainable practices form the roots of our business, meaning we consider and minimise the impact of every step of the journey to get an item of clothing into your wardrobe, from soil to sewing machine.

We’re committed to choosing a restorative path, where our success goes hand in hand with conservation of the natural world around us and the people we work with. We keep things transparent, so we encourage you to read more about how we play our part below. We’re also always open to feedback, so if you have the urge to write to us, we welcome it!

Sustainably Sourced Materials

Choosing fabrics is one of our favourite parts of the design process - there are so many beautiful options that are non-toxic, natural and ethically produced. We always choose 100% natural fibres; you will never find any plastic/ petrol based blends even for our stretchier styles.

GOTS - Global Organic Textiles Standard. We use 100% GOTS certified Organic Cotton

Organic cotton uses up to 91% less water than conventional cotton - it is grown without the use of synthetic fertilisers or pesticides (drawn heavily from fossil fuels), saving farmers and their families from being exposed to harmful chemicals.
Organic cotton farms build fertile soils and
biodiversity by rotating crops and planting cover crops.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 badge, this is for our 100% Tencel fabric - certified to be made sustainably, without the use of any harmful by-products

Tencel (aka Lyocell) is a cellulose fibre made from wood pulp from sustainably managed forests (also does not require irrigation or pesticides). It is processed via a closed-loop system meaning its manufacture does not produce any harmful by-products. Highly durable and smooth, this beautiful material ticks all of our sustainability boxes.

Ethically Produced

Our clothes are handmade in a small atelier in Sofia, Bulgaria.

We work with our garment professionals directly and we pay them significantly more than the average and minimum wage in Bulgaria.

You can be reassured your clothes are made under fair and ethical conditions.

All clothes are made-to-order so we never over-produce.

Designed for Circularity

Since we use 100% natural fibres (mono-materials), our clothes can easily be recycled. Our clothes are biodegradable (minus the zippers - these can be easily removed and reused), meaning they will return back to nature without any toxins, under composting conditions.

The best life for your clothes is if you wear them upwards of 30 times, repair them if they need it, donate/ resell, and as a last resort, you can send them back to us to be recycled. Email hello@cheiri.com for more info.

Low Impact Packaging

We are proud to say that we ship all orders in RePack packaging - this is a completely reusable package, you can return it for free via any post box (or equivalent) in the world. It is zero-waste and produces fewer carbon emissions than a cardboard box, learn more here.

We wrap your items in our FSC certified tissue paper, but don't recycle this straight away - take time to unwind with our newspaper style puzzles.

We are ever so grateful for your orders but we don't include an additional thank you note to keep materials to a minimum - we are sure that you understand. ☺
